The Department of Physical Therapy of the School of Health Sciences of the University of Peloponnese was created by Law 4610/2019 (Government Gazette 70/7-05-2019, tA’) and is based in Sparta. The aim of the Department is to train future physiotherapists according to the standards of the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (World Confederation for Physical Therapy) aiming to improve the quality of health care by encouraging and targeting high standards of physiotherapy education and practice.
Physiotherapists are specialized health professionals who can assess human body malfunctions and actively participate in the treatment and rehabilitation of congenital and acquired diseases as well as in their prevention, aiming on functional rehabilitation and improved life quality of individuals.
The newly established Department of Physiotherapy of the University of Peloponnese contributes to the upgrading of the profession of physiotherapist and to promotion of society’s health, by training students in a supportive learning environment. The Department aims to provide high quality education and applied research, preparing future graduates to practice independently as well as collaboratively in an ever-evolving, complex and diverse health environment. The students of the Department will actively participate in teaching, theoretical, laboratory, experiential, interprofessional and clinical activities. This student-centered, functional interaction, will positively enhance learning and support the professional and scholarly development of graduates, providing that all the necessary resources for the modern environment technological advances and the future of healthcare with focus on people.
